]]> Baltimore Orioles Feeding This is the first year that I have gotten Baltimore Orioles to visit. Last year I bought this feeder and put it out to late in the season and did not get any Orioles to visit. This year though I was working out in the yard on May 5th and heard a bird call that I did not recognize. I looked around and saw that they were Orioles and put my feeder out that night. The next day I had Orioles visiting my feeder regularly! I filmed all these clips on May 9th and my feeder is still quite popular, I'm happy :-) It is funny how certain Orioles in this video don't know how to use the holes on the feeder and you can see them trying to get to the sugar water by licking the cracks of the feeder. More info on Baltimore Orioles: The Baltimore Oriole, Icterus galbula, is a small icterid blackbird which is on average 18 cm long and weighs 34 g. This bird received its name from the fact that the male's colors resemble those on the coat-of-arms of Lord Baltimore. At one time, this species and the Bullock's Oriole, Icterus bullockii, were considered to be a single species, the Northern Oriole. The Baltimore Orioles, a Major League Baseball team in Baltimore, Maryland, were named after this bird. It is also the state bird of Maryland. Adults have a pointed bill and white bars on the wings.
